Gartner: Consumer Technology Market to Reach $2.1 Trillion

According to foreign media reports, according to market research firm Gartner, global consumers are expected to spend 2.1 trillion US dollars in 2012 to purchase digital information and entertainment products such as mobile phones, computing devices, digital media and services.

Gartner's forecast for 2012 is $114 billion more than in 2011. Gartner predicts that this trend will continue in the next five years. From now until 2016, consumers’ spending on technology and services will increase by $130 billion annually. By 2016, the size of the consumer technology market will reach US$2.7 trillion. Gartner analyst Amanda Sabia said in a statement that the three largest market segments in the consumer technology market will continue to be mobile services, mobile phones and entertainment services.

By 2016, consumer spending on mobile app stores and e-text content is expected to triple, from $18 billion in 2012 to $61 billion. The expenditure on electronic text content (e-books, online news, magazines, and information services) will increase from 5 billion U.S. dollars in 2012 to 16 billion U.S. dollars in 2016.

In 2012, mobile phone sales revenue will reach 222 billion US dollars, accounting for 10% of the consumer technology market. By 2016, the mobile phone sales revenue will reach 300 billion US dollars.

By 2016, revenue from entertainment services including cable, satellite TV, IPTV, and online gaming will increase from 210 billion U.S. dollars in 2012 to 290 billion U.S. dollars.
