Toshiba's new IC for Bluetooth smart devices with built-in flash memory

Toshiba today announced the launch of two Bluetooth ICs, both of which support low-energy (LE) [1] version 4.1 communications. The "TC35676FTG/FSG" has built-in flash memory and the "TC35675XBG" flash memory NFC Forum Type 3 Tag. The sample shipment will start immediately.

"TC35676FTG/FSG" was added to the current "TC35667FTG/FSG" product lineup launched last year. These devices feature an original low-power circuit design and integrated high-efficiency DC-DC converters for lower power consumption. Based on these advantages, coupled with flash memory, this new IC can store user programs and various data to support independent use. The new IC also features a 64KB user program area by adding internal SRAM capacity, supporting its internal ARM® processor to execute a variety of applications.

“TC35675XBG” is the latest product of the “TC35670FTG” series. Once integrated into a product, simply touch another mobile device that supports Near Field Communication (NFC). The NFC Tag of the product enables easy Bluetooth point-to-point pairing and simple power on/off. This is the "TC35676FTG" Extended functionality of the /FSG" feature.

These new ICs will be cost effective because they feature built-in flash memory and eliminate the need for any external EEPROM while reducing the number of external components and board size. In addition, like the current ICs, they also have the same low power consumption, powered by a small button battery, and can work for a long time, suitable for a variety of applications. For example, if you use the CR2032 button battery, the new IC can work as a beacon for more than 6 months [2].

These new ICs will facilitate the use of Bluetooth LE communications in premium small devices such as wearable medical devices, sensors and toys, and will support manufacturers in optimizing product value.
