According to the plan of the Sharp Group, about 100 workers from the first factory in Mie Prefecture will be arranged to the second factory and the factory in Kameyama.
The first and second factories in Mie Prefecture have long produced small-sized LCD panels such as handheld game consoles and car monitors. The two plants were put into production in 1997 and 2000 respectively.
Sharp said that the company has previously scaled up the production of the "IGZO" panel, which has the advantage of less power consumption. Beginning next year, all types of panels will be used on the company's self-produced smartphones. It is expected that with the expansion of the production scale of the “IGZO†panel, the second plant in Kameyama will require more skilled workers.
