Qualcomm launches smart speaker platform: To disrupt the smart home market

OFweek Medical Web News We need to add Qualcomm to the list of companies that want to be part of the smart home market. Qualcomm, the world's leading maker of smartphone chipsets, has released a platform for manufacturers who want to create smart home speakers. Although consumers may not see the Qualcomm speakers sold with Amazon, Apple, and Google, Qualcomm's technology can provide support for other new competitors in these companies.

The platform combines Qualcomm processors (developers can choose APQ8009 or APQ8017) with alternative connection technologies: dual-band 802.11b Wi-Fi chip, Bluetooth 4.2 and Bluetooth low energy. In addition, Qualcomm integrated voice user interface and audio technology.

The company said that advanced far-field voice technology will improve the voice and user interactions of the voice assistant by integrating voice capture technology, noise suppression algorithms, and voice activation features.

Qualcomm also introduced a new audio system chip. The CSRA68100 is a programmable single-chip Bluetooth audio flash memory platform designed for advanced wireless speakers and headphones. Qualcomm said it offers four times the DSP processing power of its predecessor and a powerful 32-bit developer-specific application processor. .

The Qualcomm platform also includes an audio development kit to encourage developers to create new solutions based on Qualcomm's building blocks.

The company said in a press release: "This new toolkit is designed to simplify and enhance development experience, accelerate the design of application scenarios with multiple functions running at the same time, simple functional switching, and can create a rich end-user experience.

The new solution can be added to Qualcomm's Wi-Fi mesh network platform, which is also developed for smart home applications. Obviously, chip makers want to dominate the smart home chip market just like the smart phone chip market.

Wi-Fi routers may become smart home centers, but they not only need to manage Wi-Fi. Next generation routers using Qualcomm chips and software will be able to respond to voice commands and will manage devices connected via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, ZigBee, Thread or Ethernet.

Qualcomm has introduced a new platform for its IPQ40x8/9 network-on-chip system, which is considered to be used in virtually every mesh network product on the market. With the rise of Wi-Fi mesh networks in the market, Qualcomm is promoting several new features in this area.

Self-organizing network (SON) will enable routers using Qualcomm's new technology to identify and onboard new devices with minimal user intervention. SON technology can also allocate bandwidth to devices based on current requirements. For example, smart phones that try to stream video will get more bandwidth than smart light bulbs.
