The PAM8009 provides up to 2.4W of output power rating per channel to drive a 4Ω bridged speaker load at 1% total harmonic distortion (THD+N); up to 10% total harmonic distortion 3W. The device is capable of driving the general internal small speakers of such applications at low cost and high power. The stand-alone audio interface drives 60mW power-output stereo headphones in a single-ended mode for 32Ω loads, and the hysteresis DC volume control provides precise 64-level gain adjustment from -80dB to +20dB. Automatic gain control and undervoltage protection effectively prevent the speaker from being damaged by output clipping and turn off the amplifier before the input device produces brownout noise. The PAM8009 operates from a 2.8V to 5.5V supply and consumes 7mA of quiescent current from a 5V supply. The device integrates thermal and overcurrent protection into a self-healing function and uses a power-enhanced package to reduce power consumption. The mute pin speeds up the turn-off of the speaker and headphone outputs and also helps save power. To further reduce power consumption, the product's shutdown mode turns off the amplifier's bias current. The new products are available in 1,000-piece quantities and are available in SOP-24 and QFN4040-20 package options.
