Korean telecom industry launches more competitive drone projects for the 5G era

UAVs have a wide range of applications, in addition to being used as logistics, space measurement, security monitoring, and disaster monitoring, as well as mobile base stations for telecom operators. South Korea will soon be catering to 5G commercialization in 2019, and telecom operators will lock in drones and prepare to develop more competitive drone service projects for the 5G era.

According to Newsis, SK Telecom (SKT), Korea Telecom (KT) and LG U+ have increased their investment in the UAV business in the field of public safety. The industry is optimistic that UAVs can be combined with the development of the platform business. For multi-purpose terminal equipment, it is hoped that the 5G ultra-high-speed network transmission characteristics will bring more economic benefits to the drone.

Recently, SKT signed an agreement with the Gangwon Firefighting Headquarters to donate 230 wearable cameras and 4 drones and provide T Live Caster as an instant image management system. 82% of Gangwon-do's terrain is mountainous. The introduction of drones and communication technology will help all kinds of accidents respond quickly and win the golden time of personnel search and rescue.

The drone provided by SKT has enhanced waterproof and dustproof functions. It can withstand 60 degrees of spray water temperature at the scene of the fire, and it will not shake when it encounters a wind speed of 40 kilometers per hour. In the fire simulation conducted by the Gangwon Firefighting Headquarters, the drone heat-sensing lens captured the fire and fire point, and the 30-fold optical lens quickly captured the trapped person.

SKT cooperates with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) to jointly implement the “Development and Testing of Low-altitude Traffic Management System for UAV Safe Flight”. After the system is completed, it will prevent UAV collisions, drones and buildings. Collision, drone invasion of privacy, terrorist attacks, etc.

In October 2017, SKT announced Skyship, a marine safety solution jointly developed with Korean SMEs. It is equipped with a propeller-type drone in the case of a helium-filled flying body. It combines the advantages of a drone and a spacecraft to effectively monitor the sea situation. At the same time, it can also monitor illegal fisheries, transmit disaster warnings, and monitor forest fires.

LG U+ announced that it can be used in the invisible flight zone or night flight U+ intelligent drone cloud control system, officially commercialized in Korea. The system can be operated by PC, tablet or mobile phone. Users only need to input the destination, the system can control the drone take-off and landing, instantly control the position of the drone, and decide the flight route. The system also supports single-machine multi-person and single-person simultaneous monitoring of multi-machine mode.

LG U+ is preparing to apply drone services to logistics homes in remote mountainous areas, emergency transportation of medical drugs, frequent area monitoring of disasters, coastal water depth measurement and building measurement, and expand the application of drones in the safety, aviation and environmental monitoring industries. .
