As the largest automaker in Europe, Volkswagen, after experiencing the exhaust gas scandal, opened the road to expansion of low-emission vehicles, and established its own electric vehicle battery factory has become its logical choice.

This morning, foreign media reported that Volkswagen will follow the Tesla Gigafactory battery factory, build a large battery factory and accelerate the transition to electric vehicles. In October, Volkswagen Union Chairman Bernd Osterloh said in an interview with a German media that the Volkswagen Group should invest in the development and construction of electric vehicle battery factories.

Volkswagen layoffs 30,000 people to build a battery factory

Last Friday, the Volkswagen Group reached an agreement with the union that the Volkswagen brand would lay off 30,000 people worldwide to boost profits and fund the development of electric vehicles and autonomous driving technology. The layoffs will cut 23,000 jobs in Germany, and the public promises not to impose sanctions in Germany. The final agreement on layoffs also brought the battery factory together.

Volkswagen management promises to create 9,000 new jobs, which will involve battery production and mobile services in German factories.

Volkswagen CEO Muller said: "If the Volkswagen sells more than a quarter of electric vehicles in the future, then we need at least 3 million batteries a year. It makes sense to build Volkswagen's own battery factory." Electric vehicle batteries are supplied by other suppliers.

In terms of vehicle sharing services, Muller said that Volkswagen is currently discussing potential cooperation possibilities with Uber, but the public will not be limited to the role of vehicle suppliers. Muller said: "Uber sees us more like a supplier. But we have said: Uh, we are very happy to participate in this competition. We will maintain the position of leadership."

Like the public, other car companies that are actively developing electric vehicles and investing in mobile services are not limited to selling cars, but are beginning to be more involved in vehicle sharing.

Muller confirmed that Volkswagen has set aside $19.1 billion to handle the related expenses of the Volkswagen exhaust valve series.
