Spend thousands of dollars to buy big-name mobile phones with low-cost routers, like spending big money to buy iPhone only buy 16G as helpless

Wi-Fi is simply a vitamin for modern people.

Hey, some people have said that it is home that can automatically connect to Wi-Fi.

But Wi-Fi is used every day, but there are not many people who really understand it.

Don't get me wrong, I know that you won't be interested in high and hard technical terms. For most people, what Wi-Fi really matters is nothing more than these: fast, stable, and secure.

The reason why I talked about this topic is to talk about my experience of going to a relative's house last month. When I first arrived at the Dabo family, I was considered an IT man. I was stunned by a problem:

We recently moved to a new home and added a lot of smart devices. It was a happy thing. However, the new box looks at the video card, and the game can't be loaded for a long time. Looking for telecommunications complaints, the telecommunications people said that there is no problem with the network. What is going on?

Looking for a Wi-Fi signal for you

With the usual IT knowledge and omnipotent search engine, I have given a series of antidote to this Wi-Fi problem in the Dabo family. I want to share it here and hope to help you.

Problem 1: There are too many connected devices, and old routers are overwhelmed

I first checked the use of the smart device in Dabo: I found that there is a TV box in the living room, two tablets on the sofa, a smart phone for the whole family, three computers and a game console, and even The so-called connected smart refrigerator...

Turning around and asking the aunt's home what router to use, the answer is: "We don't know, but bought it when I lived in the last house. I bought it for three or four years."

Must be changed! The reason is -

In the past, when smart phones and smart home appliances were not popular, home wireless routers only needed to provide network access for a small number of laptops. Nowadays, not only a smart phone, but also a variety of home appliances are also playing "smart" cards, and the burden on the router will be heavier. At this time, a relatively well-configured wireless router becomes necessary.

Not only that, but also regularly check whether anyone is smashing the net, or else the best routers will be overwhelmed by a large number of strangers.

"Is that better router? Is it expensive?" Aunt has consistently demonstrated the habit of "diligent and family-friendly."

In fact, the routers currently deployed by civilians on the market can be won by more than one hundred yuan. If you need a router with more functions and more professionalism, you can buy it at five or six hundred. Mobile phones are willing to spend five or six thousand to buy an international big card, with a router that is not good enough, it feels like the old cow Laran Bogini?

Question 2: Is the router all the same? Wrong!

There are quite a few people who think that the router will do whatever it takes, and there will be no difference.

As a result, many homes place Wi-Fi routers at the edge of the house, including in the distribution box, near the wall of the cabling head, causing poor signal proximity to the router, especially Wi- The Fi signal needs to be worn through the wall.

But the actual situation is:

Generally, the radio transmitting device of such a cylindrical antenna has a circular signal. Let's imagine that there is a big square and a circle with a center in the plane. If the center of the circle is placed on the side, then the farthest from the center of the circle will not be covered by the circle; if the center of the circle is placed in the middle of the square, then The center of the circle can cover most of the home.

After learning that the television in the home of the uncle was placed in the central location of the home, I transferred the router to this location, and the Wi-Fi signal just covered the entire house.

What if the home is too big? At this time, a router may be difficult to completely cover. You can add a new router as a relay and configure a wireless network with the same name and password to solve the problem.

Question 3: Which Wi-Fi is connected to it?

The coverage problem was solved. I asked the network they were using and found that they only used the 2.4GHz network, so I also configured the 5GHz network when configuring the router.

The uncle and the aunt are about to get rid of these two new terms, and I have to explain to them like this:

Suppose there is a highway. If there are many, many, and many cars on this highway, what kind of consequences will it be caused? Yes, traffic jams. 2.4 GHz is like such a highway. Because it is the frequency used in the early days of Wi-Fi technology, it is also the most used. Most devices also use Wi-Fi technology at this frequency. If too many devices use the same frequency, large interference will be formed, which will cause data transmission to be easily lost, resulting in a drop in network speed.

For this reason, the WLAN Technology Alliance has proposed a new 5 GHz Wi-Fi operating frequency. At the new frequency, not only can new technologies be used, but also small interference can be guaranteed to ensure the stability of Wi-Fi usage.

Isn't it true that home lighting uses 5GHz Wi-Fi? Not necessarily. It is recommended to turn on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies, because although the latter is very good, the former supports more devices, and for large houses, the former has a better signal coverage than the latter. Like in a relatively large house, a little further away from the router, 2.4GHz is more appropriate.

Of course, there is also a router on the market that uses a very novel technology, that is, the 2.4L and 5GHz bands use the same broadcast name and password. Once connected, the router can intelligently select the frequency for each connected device.

What, you said 5GHz is not fast enough? There is also the secret weapon below.

Question 4: There is also the secret weapon MU MIMO, you must understand

What I said earlier may not be a big deal for a friend with a little IT knowledge. But the technology to be said next is also a new thing for me.

It is called MU MIMO. Explain in a non-human way: "MU MIMO is the abbreviation of MulTI-User, MulTIple-Input, MulTIple-Output, which translates to multi-user, multi-input, multi-output. It is initiated by Qualcomm and is a wireless LAN 802.11ac The next generation introduces new technologies."

How to understand it?

In fact, the working principle is very simple to explain. In the past, Wi-Fi technology, at the same time, a Wi-Fi router can only serve one device at the same time - it can be understood that an operator can only answer one user's incoming call at the same time. The new MU MIMO technology is like adding several operators to the customer service center to receive more customers at the same time. On the router, the router can handle data exchange requests from multiple devices at the same time.

In a word: With MU MIMO, your home Wi-Fi signal will be more stable and the network speed will be faster.

How can I use it?

On the one hand, you need a router that supports MU MIMO technology;

On the other hand, the device you use to connect to Wi-Fi also supports MU MIMO. Take the smart phones we use every day. When you buy mobile phones, you should pay attention to the processors. Most mobile phones equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chips support MU MIMO technology, so Wi-Fi will be faster. .

Written at the end

Wi-Fi is still Wi-Fi, but the technology behind it has been updated for generations. The world is still the world, but technology is running fast. Quickly updating your knowledge is necessary for us in a new era.

We hope that this article will help you use Wi-Fi more efficiently, so that you can be faster in your work and life efficiency. We also hope to awaken your curiosity about new technologies – especially those that we use every day, but that are always changing.

Because a small gap every day will eventually bring about tremendous changes.
