PC shipments fell by 7.8% in 2013

The traditional PC market has been languishing in recent times. In many regions, tablet PCs have surpassed traditional PCs. The performance of the entire PC market is bleak, and shipments have also been declining year by year.

In March 2013, IDC, an authoritative research organization, announced that global PC shipments in 2013 will fall by 1.3%. One of the important reasons for this phenomenon is that the market cannot usher in enough Windows 8 touch screen devices. Recently, the company re-evaluated PC shipments again. The results were worse than the previous one. The rate of decline in shipments rose to 7.8%.

IDC pointed out at a press conference that the total PC shipments worldwide this year will be 321.9 million, a year-on-year decrease of 7.8% (2012 shipments were 349 million). IDC said that there are many reasons for this drastic decline. For example, companies have delayed the purchase of PCs and switched to more portable tablets and smart phones.

When it comes to tablet computers, IDC also made a prediction for this purpose. According to IDC's projection, shipments of flat-panels in 2013 will reach 229.3 million, which is an increase of 58.7% compared to 2012 - flat-panel shipments of 1.445 in 2012.

IDC said that by 2015, global flat panel shipments will exceed PC shipments.

Ryan Reith, project manager of IDC's mobile department, believes, "IDC still believes that PC will play an important role in the future computer age, especially for business users. However, for most consumers, it is simple and central to its use. Tablets that provide excellent solutions outperform PCs."
