Lucid announces cooperation with RED to develop 180 degree 8K+3D camera

Earlier this month, LucidCam already had a 180-degree 3D camera before Google and Lenovo released their VR180-degree camera. Today, Lucid has announced a partnership with professional camera manufacturer RED to develop a 180-degree 8K, 3D camera.

The new dual camera design not only provides users with complete 8K video and picture functions, but also dynamically adjusts the lens distance for optimal 3D focal length and zoom. The device will also be compatible with the upcoming holographic smartphone, RED Hydrogen One. By connecting your phone to the camera, users will be able to view 3D content in real time and use it as a viewfinder.

In a statement, Lucid CEO and co-founder Han Jin said: "With RED as a partner, we can combine the best of these two camera worlds - the highest resolution and high quality hardware and the most advanced 3D software technology."

The new RED camera is powered by Lucid's real-time 3D fusion technology, but without the cumbersome 3D workflow. The look and feel of the new camera follows the previous design of RED, but this time it has two hardware sync cameras that use the beam splitter to capture and convert the output to an 8K 4V file. Once content is available, all high-resolution 3D videos and images can be published on YouTube and Facebook, or via RED's content library.

Han Jin added: "This partnership allows us to provide our customers with the highest quality 3D capture for the first time. Now they can see 3D effects without glasses. The two biggest challenges in this industry are Solution and viewing experience, we believe that our research and development content is a solution that many people are waiting for."

On May 19th, at the RED release party, a mobile phone was combined with a new 3D camera. RED refers to the holographic display function 4-View, which provides a unique feature that allows users to view and track objects and view 3D, VR, and AR content without the need for any glasses or headlines.

The camera is expected to be available at the end of the year and the specific pricing will be announced later.
